Bark in Black (and White)

I can't help myself... I start thinking of titles and all I get are bad puns...



This is shot with the Baerbl (Retro Cam again). I really like the black and white, and particularly the high white that the camera has picked up. In retrospect I might have played with the contrast/ brightness on the Desire to exaggerate that contrast a little before I transferred it. It's a shame it still adds a brown frame even in black and white, more authenic maybe but I think that detracts from the photo. (again, I could have made it black and white with post-process effects in Android but... ah, sweet hindsight... ;) )



This one's the Little Orange Box again. I just kinda like it. =)

Rust in Peace

So I mentioned this was inspired by Eastscapes, who does this much better than I ever will. He has a commitment to exploring human dilapidation, to finding evidence of abandonment, and a good eye for a great shot. It's a kind of modern archaeology. I sometimes wonder, looking at his photoblog, whether the apocalypse hasn't already happened and we just didn't notice; we just learnt to live around it.

The photo above was taken around the Norfolk Broads (don't ask me which one...). It was shot with the Little Orange Box camera in Retro Cam. I love the way the colours have come out.

The photo below was shot with the FudgeCan camera. I include it for comparison, I just don't like it as much. The LOB shot is warmer and I guess the FC shot just feels a little 'swampy', kind of murky blue-green that doesn't complement the rust at all.

Apologies for the awful pun in the title, first posts are always the hardest...

So I guess I'll start in with what this is about. It's about me and photography. I have a 'proper' camera, a digital SLR and all that jazz. I have a Flickr account I haven't used in almost 4 years.

Writing will always be my priority, but I love photography. The problem is time. I started with a phone camera (Motorola A1000), before I bought myself an SLR, so I guess I'm going back to my roots. It's easier, in the sense that I always have my phone on me, and I really dig the retro look that can be achieved with various apps. So this is me experimenting.

I've been using the Retro Camera app a fair amount. A bit haphazardly at the moment, but at some point I plan to do a comparison shot with all the cameras available on it.

Taken using the Retro Cam 'xolaroid 2000' camera. A windowsill at my sister's place. It's an old, characterful building I could spend hours photographing the tiniest bits of.
